Tolerance is a 2-Way Street

I've been reading a lot in the news lately about how Christians all over the world are suffering for their faith- some to the point of martyrdom.  Here in the United States, one of the hot topics is tolerance towards the homosexual community.

An article from the Daily Signal reports of a Christian family in Oregon who chose not to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian wedding.  A lawsuit was filed, and the family has been fined in excess of  $150,000.  They are now facing backruptcy.  The article may be read in its entirety here.

A Deacon in my former Episcopal congregation once told me that there's no such thing as "guilt by association" with God.  If one believes that, the Christian couple perhaps could have chosen to bake the cake despite the fact that such a wedding is against their Christian beliefs.  Be that as it may, based on their personal convictions, they chose *not* to serve the lesbian couple.  Should they be forced into bankruptcy for standing up for what they believe is right?

Tolerance is a two-way street.  If the homosexual community desires to be treated with dignity and respect, they must reciprocate.  Forcing this couple into bankruptcy is not going to change how they feel about homosexual weddings.

"Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord."
